We are currently recruiting 1 Chief Mate at Ocean Services Ltd. to work on our Canadian Flagged Vessel.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Chief Officer is responsible to the Master for the supervision and administration of Deck Operations. He is the second in command of the vessel and the Officer in Charge in the absence of the Master.

In addition to his responsibility to the Master for the proper performance of his assigned navigational watch duties, the Chief Officer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Upon joining the vessel the Chief Officer must report to the Master.

- S/he must discuss with the Officer being relieved, details of the equipment and material for which he will be responsible, and inspect them promptly, preferably in the company of the Officer being relieved. Anything found to be unsatisfactory must be reported to the Master.

- Complete NS PER 006 (Handover Report) & NS SAF 001 (Shipboard Familiarisation Record).

- Act as an Officer in charge for Cargo Operations and be responsible for cargo planning, including tank preparation, loading, stowage, discharging and sampling.

- Act as Ships Security Officer (ref; NS SSP – Ship Security Plan).

- Act as Ships Safety Officer (ref; NS HSM – Health and Safety Manual).

- Act as an Officer in charge for Ballast Water Management (ref; Ballast Water Management Plan).

- Act as an Officer in charge for implementation of Waste Management Plan

- Preparing accurate reports and records concerning the cargo.

- Compliance with any special regulations and procedures concerning cargo handling in different ports.

- Maintain a Log Book relating to cargo handling, cargo valve settings, ballasting instructions and any other special requirements during the voyage.

- Planning and supervising the maintenance and upkeep of the hull, decks and superstructure.

- Ensure all work is carried out safely and properly with emphasis on the control of fabric deterioration and corrosion.

- Monitor the consumption of deck stores.

-Liaise with the Engineering Department to ensure that tanks, holds, and cargo

handling equipment is maintained in good working order and ensure any work

involving the outward presentation of the ship does not take priority over work which

is essential for the safety and efficiency of the ship.

- Arrange daily soundings of the cargo & ballast tanks, bilges & cofferdams..

- Ensure safe access to the vessel for authorised personnel by gangway or

accommodation ladder is provided.

Certifications: Certifications: Cert of Comp, MEDs, First Aid (Advanced preferred) or COP in Marine Medical Care, Bridge Resource Management, ECDIS generic, SAM ECDIS, Canadian GMDSS, Marine Medical, WHMIS, Confined Space and the ability to work in the US.
