In 2016, Nova and Algoma created NovaAlgoma Cement Carriers, or NACC. The fleet comprises pneumatic cement carriers that utilize a compressor and pump system to unload cement powder via a larger diameter hose and is now the second largest in the world.This operation is very clean, with essentially no discharge to the atmosphere. Cement shipping is a recognized market with generally smaller vessels servicing large global manufacturers that support infrastructure investment.

Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, 2nd Engineers are responsible for operating and maintaining a vessel's propulsion and auxiliary systems including responsibilites for main engines, boilers, fuel, steering mechanisms, feed systems, electrical, refrigeration systems, sewage treatment, lube oil, standing watch in the engine room, directing and supervising unlicensed crew, recording and reporting on the engine's performance.
Candidates must possess:
- 2nd Motor Certificate issued by Transport Canada
- Marine Medical issued by Transport Canada
- STCW certificates issued by Transport Canada
- Canadian passport or permanent residence status
- Security Duties certificate
