Job description:
Senior marine engineering officers help operate and maintain the ship’s engine room, machinery and other equipment, like the onboard water management system. They also help supervise and manage the rest of the engine room team.
Your work location would be one of our Canadian Coast Guard ships, which are stationed across Canada’s coasts. A typical work schedule is 2-6 weeks onboard a ship, followed by the same amount of paid time off.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervising the daily operations and maintenance of the ship’s engine room and operations
- Operating and repairing the ship’s main engines, mechanical systems, deck equipment and other supporting equipment
- Recommending and assisting with vessel repair, alterations and refit
- Providing advice to the ship’s chief engineer
- Updating oil record books, engine room logs and maintenance records
- Supervising and training engineering crew assigned to the ship’s watch keeping system
- Participating in safety and emergency drills and operations, like all crew members
Education, Experience and Skills:
- Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident
- Experience working as a marine engineering officer
- Valid Transport Canada Third-class marine engineering certificate or higher
- Dependable, organized, with a strong work ethic
- Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills
- Results driven
