Owen Sound Transportation Company and ComplexRE Ltd. are accepting resumes for the position of Captain for the vehicle / passenger ferry MV Niska 1 operating between Moosonee, Ontario and Moose Factory, Ontario on the Moose River.

Qualifications

The successful candidate shall hold one of the following certificates:

• Master 150 Gross Tonnage, Domestic
• Chief Mate 500 Gross Tonnage, Domestic
• Chief Mate 150 Gross Tonnage, Domestic

The successful candidate shall hold a valid marine medical with no restrictions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• General command of vessel, bridge team and engine room
• Ensuring safe work practices
• Safety of the ship’s crew, passengers, and the marine environment
• Demonstrated leadership abilities for both people and processes
• Demonstrated ability to operate the vessel in small vessel traffic conditions
• Ability to work in a customer service environment
• Monitoring of daily tidal conditions

Compensation

• Fixed term, seasonal employment contract of 140 days from mid-May to end-October.
• Salary range for the term position is $80,000 - $90,000; a daily rate will apply after 140 days ($571.43 - $642.86); actual salary and daily rate paid will be commensurate with the qualifications and skills of the successful candidate.
• Vacation pay to be paid at 5% and paid out on a bi-weekly basis.
• A retention bonus of 10% of the base salary will be awarded at the end of the season upon satisfactory completion of the obligation.   

This position is a seasonal contract.

Benefits are not included.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 3 month probationary period to assess suitability.

A meal per diem of 98.45 / day applies to the position.

Local transportation is provided.  Cost of fuel is borne by the employee,

Transportation costs to Moosonee are provided at the beginning of season and home at the end of the season.
