Key duties may include:
• Provides input to the Chief Cook in planning the ship's cyclical, formal and special occasion menus
• Modifies recipes to suit the dietary and special needs of passengers and crew
• Assists in preparing and cooking all food, planning and organizing its operation, assisting in storing of food and maintenance of the galley and its equipment
• Ensures a high standard of food safety and sanitation throughout the galley
• Participates in shipboard emergency and safety drills, firefighting, abandoning ship, man overboard, damage control and other operations such as rescue
• Provides all support necessary to ensure CCG meets its mandate

The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), a Special Operating Agency within Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), is entrusted to deliver valuable programs and services to Canadians that save lives, protect the environment and support our Canadian economy. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
Valid Transport Canada Ships’ Cook Certification OR Provincial Standard (Red Seal)
Valid Food Safety Handling Training
Valid Basic Marine First Aid or Marine Advanced First Aid*
*any candidate holding First Aid qualifications other than the requested certification (i.e. certification which does not include a marine component) may be deemed partially qualified with the expectation that, at minimum, the Marine Basic First Aid training be obtained prior to hire.
In the Hospitality Industry or in an institutional setting as a cook or chef

• Valid medical (new hires: Transport Canada Marine Medical or Health Canada Periodic 3
• Valid Canadian Passport;
• Must be willing and able to wear a Respiratory Protection device and meet the standard of the CCG Respiratory Protection Program – RPP;
• Willingness to wear and maintain a uniform per Canadian Coast Guard standards, inclusive of CSA approved safety footwear, and maintain job related personal safety equipment;
• Must be willing and able to be deployed
• Must be willing and able to perform overtime work as required, often on short notice;
• Must be willing and able to work shiftwork, rotating hours, and variable hours of work;
• Must be willing and able to work aboard a vessel for up to 42 consecutive days
• Must be willing and able to travel by air, land and sea.
Candidates who are hired must be willing and able to travel from their residence to home port at their own expense.
