On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. Under the direction of a CCG Officer, this position carries out maintenance, operational and custodial services for the Watchkeeping Engineer of a Canadian Coast Guard ship, as well as duties in the marine environment as part of the Canadian Coast Guard’s federal mandate. Key duties may include:
• Assisting in operating, maintaining and repairing ship machinery and equipment;
• Participating in fueling, lube oil transfer and waste oil products handling, and the production, transfer, testing and treatment of potable water;
• Conducting rigging in support of engine room lifting activities;
• Participating in damage control, firefighting, environmental response and other drills, exercises and operations.

• Valid Marine Basic First Aid or Marine Advanced First Aid*
*any candidate holding First Aid qualifications other than the requested certification (ie. certification which does not include a marine component) may be deemed partially qualified with the expectation that, at minimum, the Marine Basic First Aid training be obtained prior to hire
• Marine Emergency Duties Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) – Basic Safety training course completed within the last 5 years OR valid Marine Emergency Duties, Certificate of Proficiency in STCW Basic Safety.**
• Marine Emergency Duties STCW – Survival Craft training course completed within the last 5 years OR valid Marine Emergency Duties Certificate of Proficiency in STCW Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats.**
**Note: Applicants with expired MEDs are still encouraged to apply. Upon successful completion of the process, applicants with expired MEDs would be placed into a pool of partially qualified candidates. Once MED refreshers are obtained, they would be moved into the pool of fully qualified candidates and be considered for appointment

• Experience working at sea.
• Experience working with DFO/CCG departmental Engineering databases.

• For Canadian Citizens, Valid Canadian Passport or for Canadian Permanent Residents, A Valid Passport from a recognized Passport Issuing Authority.
• Must be willing and able to wear a Respiratory Protection device and meet the standard of the CCG Respiratory Protection Program –RPP.
• Must be willing to wear and maintain a uniform per Canadian Coast Guard standards, inclusive of CSA approved safety footwear, and maintain job related personal safety equipment.
• Must be willing and able to be deployed.
• Must be willing and able to perform Overtime work as required, often on short notice.
• Must be willing and able to work shiftwork.
• Must be willing and able to work aboard a vessel for up to 42consecutive days.
• Must be willing and able to travel by air, land, and by sea.
***Candidates must hold a Transport Canada Marine Medical valid for the occupation group to which they have applied (Deck, Engine, or Catering) prior to initial hire. A Health Canada Occupational Health Medical must be completed after initial hire and must be maintained as an ongoing condition of employment.
