Reporting to the Master, the Deckhand handles cables of various sizes in order to perform the berthing and unberthing of the tug. He also carries out all tug maintenance operations. The incumbent will be required to work in Hamilton, Ontario.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure the berthing of tugs using cables;
• Maintain accommodations and decks;
• Remove snow or ice from ships as required;
• Adjust the bridge and see to the safe transfer of persons;
• Ensure connection to ground current (outlet and circuit breaker);
• Perform cleaning, cutting, polishing and painting work in relation to tug maintenance;
• Refuel equipment with diesel;
• Perform any other tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Hold a MED STCW Basic Safety training certificate;
• Hold a Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats training certificate;
• Hold a Restricted Radiotelephone Operator’s Certificate-Maritime (ROC-M);
• Have 3 to 5 years of experience as Deckhand;
• Demonstrate autonomy;
• Available for long trips.
WORK SCHEDULE:
• 40 hours/week;
• 7/7 work schedule (14 days on and 7 days off in stand-by).
