Marine Atlantic’smission is to provide a safe, environmentally responsible, and quality ferry service between the Island of Newfoundland and the Province of Nova Scotia in a reliable, courteous and cost-effective manner. The Corporation provides ferry services on two routes. The first is a year-round, 96 nautical mile daily ferry service between Port aux Basques, Newfoundland and Labrador and North Sydney, Nova Scotia. The second, offered from mid-June until late September, is a 280 nautical mile tri-weekly ferry service between Argentia, Newfoundland and Labrador and North Sydney, Nova Scotia. Marine Atlantic is a Federal Crown Corporation that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Transport.

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, the Director of Supply Chain Management is responsible for all aspects of the Supply Chain Department, which includes Procurement, Global Inventory Management, and Materials and Logistics Management. This role will develop purchasing strategy, budgets, plans, policies, systems and procedures that will achieve company strategic procurement objectives, and is accountable for overall planning, implementation and optimization of activities and support required for delivery of products to customers. Further, this position will supervise, manage, coach and mentor the staff and management team of the department, while monitoring the departmental performance and progress of key performance indicators. The duties will include reviewing monthly financial reports, preparing monthly variance reports and adjust as necessary, while ensuring that purchases for the department are made in compliance with the procurement policy. As Director, you will also ensure compliance with the Canada Labour Code and other applicable legislations. This position will have four direct reports from both the Procurement and Materials Management departments.

As the ideal candidate, you have a degree from a recognized university in Supply Chain, Business Administration/Commerce, Public Administration or a related field, plus a minimum of 5-10 years experience in a senior decision making role; five of which must include experience in a senior leadership/management capacity. A degree in a related/comparable discipline will be considered an equivalent. As well, a combination of equivalent education, job-related training and experience in a related position will also be considered. Public sector experience would be considered an asset. You demonstrate strong communication, negotiation and collaboration skills, as well as strong interpersonal and influencing skills. You have a strategic mindset with honed analytical and problem-solving capabilities. You have a proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally across an organization and deliver on project management accountabilities. You have a strong working knowledge of financial management practices and principles and of accounting and finance as it relates to supply chain operations. Certification in project management, risk mitigation and/or supply chain management, as well as experience in supply chain ERP systems are considered assets.
