A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF WHAT TO EXPECT
Reporting to the Director – Harbour Towing operations, the incumbent will have responsibility of the mechanical operations and maintenance on Company’s Voith and Conventionnal vessels. The position holder will provide engineering expertise and solutions to technical matters including repairs to Tugs to achieve best practices and operational availability. The incumbent will be required to work in the Port of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIES YOU WILL BE ENTRUSTED WITH
- Supervision of vessel chief engineers, and providing technical support as required
- Overall responsible for the maintenance and general upkeep of all machinery and equipment onboard vessels
- Monitoring the preventive maintenance plan system to ensure all maintenance is up to date
- Ensure the implementation of the safety management system in his department
- Maintaining an accurate inventory of vessel spare parts, tools, lube oil, and addressing requests from vessel crew including fuel
- Act as a vital link between the vessels and main office director of fleet maintenance
- Perform and participate in internal audits to ensure compliance
- Participate in and prepare vessels for statutory inspections and compliance audits
- Coordinate and report on major maintenance jobs to include dry dock
- Liaise with external suppliers and contractors regarding the provision of service to the operations
- Supervise and provide guidance as required to external contractors to ensure Company’s safety practices are maintained
- Ensure compliance with local and international laws and regulations
- Make sure that work is perform according to company practices
- Make sure that personnel under his supervision adhere to company practices
- Ensure that vessels are ready for inspections
- Maintain operational readiness of machinery.
PROFILE SOUGHT
- Hold a diploma in marine engineering
- Hold a senior engineering officer’s certificate (minimum 2nd class)
- Hold a medical certificate issued by Transport Canada
- Have minimum 5 years of experience in a similar position
- Good knowledge of diesel motor mechanics
- Work experience in the Port of Hamilton (an asset)
- Experience with MAK and Caterpillar (an asset)
- Strong safety culture
- Human Element Leadership and team working skills management
- Critical thinking skills
- Able to work in high pressure environment
- Knowledge of dry-docking procedures (an asset)
- Available to work on call.
