MARINE SUPERINTENDENT

TMSI Ltd is a local marine transportation company operating ships in eastern Canada. As part of our expansion plans, we have an immediate full time opening for a Marine Superintendent to work in our Halifax N.S. location.

 

The incumbent will act as an advisor to senior management and vessel officers and is expected to operate efficiently and be able to solve key problems effectively.    

 

 

The Marine Superintendent is responsible for (but not limited to):

·        Providing functional support to vessel Masters and Chief Officers.

·        Establishing and overseeing a plan maintenance program for our vessels

·        Maintaining parts and supplies inventories

·        Managing procurements and requisitions

·        Planning, preparing and overseeing dry-docks and major refits

·        Managing engine room data and operating parameters

·        Reviewing all status reports

·        Chairing weekly shipboard meetings

·        Implementing ISM and ISPS requirements

·        Screening new hires and evaluating crew members

·        Maintaining company specific safety training for the crew (OHS, WHMIS, TDG, IMDG, etc.)

·        Assuring that all government, flag state and class regulations are strictly followed

·        Leading or participating in all inspections, audits and incident investigations

·        Maintaining open and regular liaison with Class and port state inspectors.

 

The successful candidate will have:

 

·        A valid Canadian certificate of competency – preferably a First or Second Class Marine Engineer, First Officer or Master Mariner, or equivalent.

·        A minimum 3 years sailing experience as a senior officer on vessels over 3000 GRT

·        Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

·        Good knowledge and experience with large marine engines.

·        A strong understanding of ISM and ISPS

·        A strong understanding of Canadian flag and Class requirements.

·        Ability to work in stressful situations and to respond to problems decisively and effectively

·        Proficiency and strong communication skills in both the French and English languages

·        Proven leadership skills

 

Candidates must provide evidence that they are collaborative team players, able to coordinate and interact simultaneously with multiple people on several projects. We also require high attention to detail and strong computer skills, particularly with all MS Office applications.
