Position title : Maritime Search and Rescue Coordinator

Position : 5 positions to be filled

Location : Quebec City

Salary : $74,763 to $85,004 (Evening, night and weekend allowances / Bilingual bonus: $800 / Additional compensation: $5,354 / Paid Public Holidays: $8,281 to $9,415)

Tasks: Marine Search and Rescue (SAR) Coordinators provide an invaluable service to people in need of assistance on the federally controlled waterways. Maritime SAR Coordinators oversee the activation, planning, and coordination, of Maritime Search and Rescue with the help of strategically located Canadian Coast Guard SAR vessels, Royal Canadian Air Force resources, and partners like police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS).

Requiered qualifications :

  • Bilingual imperative BBC/BBC;
  • A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives;
  • Hold, or be in the process of obtaining a Watchkeeping Mate Certificate, approved under STCW 95 and issued under the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 Marine Personnel Regulations SOR/2007-115 (or equivalent);
  • 12 months experience as a deck officer in charge of the watch; OR
  • 12 months experience as a Marine Rescue Co-ordinator or Assistant Coordinator at a Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) or Marine Rescue Sub-Center (MRSC); OR 
  • 12 months experience as an officer in a Marine Communications and Traffic Services Center (MCTS); OR
  • 12 months of experience in CCG operations, such as Regional Operation center, Environmental Response or Search and Rescue Preparedness;
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems;

  • Ability to work under pressure in an emergency situation;

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing;

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally;

  • Ability to use various computer tools;

  • Demonstrating integrity and respect;

  • Thinking things through;

  • Working effectively with others;

  • Showing initiative and being action-oriented.
