BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Superintendant, the position holder,The incumbent will be responsible for the planning the coordination, the supervision of the operations and maintenance and mechanical repairs of tugs, and equipment (barges, etc.). He will carry out various works related to the application of quality standards. Finally, he will manage the personnel under his supervision and be responsible for certain administrative tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and oversee the performance of activities and projects pertaining to client needs;
  • Elaborate, recommend and implement necessary processes and policies to optimize towing operations;
  • Assess the needs related to projects, prepare them (manpower, ships, materials, equipment, etc.) and ensure procurement for each project;
  • Participate in hiring and dismissal processes and carry out performance evaluations with his superior;
  • Apply the rules of the collective agreement in collaboration with the director of operations;
  • Inspect ship and barge maintenance and repair work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, classification society and Transport Canada standards;
  • Examine plans, drawings and diagrams related to the maintenance and repair/renovation of ships and barges;
  • Assist with maintenance work and repairs on tugs in order to ensure compliance with current specifications and standards (ISM and SINEX);
  • Ensure the application and respect of the quality standards in force (ISM, ISPS);
  • Participate and support the activities of the Health, Safety and Environment Management System.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3rd Class Marine Engineer certificate (higher class would be an asset);
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in a similar position;
  • Good knowledge of diesel motor mechanics and electronic troubleshooting;
  • Good knowledge of start up and shutdown procedure of tug engine and machinery;
  • Knowledge of dry docking procedures;
