BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Director of Operations – Marine Transportation, the incumbent will be responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising the operations and mechanical maintenance and repairs of tugs, barges and coasters. He will carry out various tasks related to the application of quality standards. Finally, he will manage the personnel under his supervision and will be responsible for certain administrative tasks.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with his superior, coordinate and implement various projects;
  • Evaluate needs related to transportation projects, prepare them (manpower, vessels, material, equipment, etc.) and ensure procurement for each project;
  • Supervise shipping operations while ensuring profitability of employees’ work time;
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and policies by employees under his supervision;
  • Plan, coordinate, supervise and verify routine and preventive maintenance mechanical work scheduled (SINEX system), as well as unscheduled work and repairs;
  • Inspect maintenance and repair work on vessels and barges to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, classification society and Transport Canada standards;
  • Plan and organize various jobs to be performed and submit plans and statistics to his superior (estimations of hours, material costs, number of employees involved, balance sheets, etc.);
  • Participate and support the activities of the Health, Safety and Environment Management System.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • University or college degree or other relevant training;
  • Experience in the field of marine transportation or any other related field (transportation logistics, administrative sciences or other);
  • Knowledge of marine mechanics and diesel engines;
  • Experience in project supervision;
  • Availability to travel frequently (Quebec, Canada, overseas);
  • Engineer’s class;
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license;
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Advanced analytical capability;
  • Ability to organize work well and be structured;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Bilingualism in French and English, oral and written (asset).
