The Position
We have an opening for a Second Officer position on one of our ships, which sails from Montreal to St. John’s, NL.
The second officer, in addition to his responsibility towards the navigation, safety and operations of the vessel is directly responsible for the update of charts and records and maintenance of the wheelhouse equipment.
Tasks and responsibilities

The Second Officer is the Master’s Representative while in charge of the watch, and, as such, is responsible for the safety of the vessel, for complying with "International and Flag State Regulations", for implementing the quality and safety management system, for complying with the company policies and procedures and for executing the Master’s orders.

He is directly responsible for the care and upkeep of the wheelhouse, wheelhouse equipment, (telegraphs, whistles, binoculars, flags, navigation lights, etc…) chart room, chart room equipment, charts and correction of charts, record books, compasses, chronometers, clocks, sounding equipment, speed and distance measuring equipment and meteorological instruments, navigational instruments and aids to navigation, sailing directions and other nautical publications.

He has authority over the men on his watch.

Starting : November 19th, 2019 ( November 12th, 2019 if a training is required)
Status :Regular

Qualifications

Watch Keeping Mate

MED, STCW Basic Safety

Proficiency in Survival Crafts and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats

MED, Advanced Firefighting

Proficiency, Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties
