Title: First Mate (Training Captain), Sterling Fuels Limited
Location: McAsphalt Marine Transportation Limited Offices - Hamilton, Ontario
Reporting to: Sterling Energy Captain
The Sterling Energy is a refuelling tanker that services vessels in the Lake Ontario and Hamilton Harbour region.
Responsibilities:
In the position of First Mate your main responsibilities will be ensuring the safe conduct of the vessel, its crew and the environment. Further responsibilities include, motivating the crew on deck maintenance, learning and developing the skills necessary for command of a vessel including by not limited to maintaining on board certification in accordance with TC, ensuring all crew abide by Sterling Fuels Policy and Procedure maintenance.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: (or working towards) M3000-NC (STCW 95 II/2); Marine Emergency Duties certification inclusive of proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats, advanced firefighting, and MED for senior officers; Marine Advanced First Aid; ROC-MC; Bridge Resource Management Training; valid Transport Canada medical certificate, as well as Tanker II. The selected candidate must also have knowledge of ISM and safety management systems.
Preferred Qualifications: General Operator’s Certificate (GOC); Ship Security Officer (SSO) certification; knowledge of oil trade. Proficiency with Microsoft word and Excel as well as other computer and data entry software will be considered assets. Personal characteristics of an ideal candidate include being able to work well with others, delegate authority, strong leadership skills as well as exhibiting conscientious and trustworthy behaviour. A good sense of humor will also be an asset.
Please note: The above position is as First Mate aboard the Sterling Energy, a refuelling vessel based out of Hamilton Harbour. Given the unpredictable schedule and demands associated with vessel fuelling, and given the expectations of the role, candidates living within the larger Hamilton area will be given priority and only candidates already living within (or willing to relocate to) a reasonable distance of home port will be considered.
