Job Description

Coastal Shipping Limited is seeking a qualified and experienced Second Engineer for relief opportunities aboard our Canadian tanker fleet.

The Second Engineer plays a key leadership role within the vessel's Engineering Department, working closely with the Chief Engineer to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the vessel's machinery, systems and engineering equipment.

Our vessels operate in challenging and diverse environments, including Canada's Arctic, coastal waters and the Great Lakes. We are looking for a safety-focused engineering professional with strong technical knowledge, leadership skills and tanker experience who can contribute effectively from the start of the assignment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Engineer with the safe and efficient operation of the Engineering Department
• Supervise and coordinate engine-room personnel and assigned maintenance activities
• Operate, monitor and maintain main and auxiliary machinery
• Plan and carry out preventative and corrective maintenance
• Maintain engine-room machinery, pumps, piping and associated systems
• Monitor machinery performance and identify and address operational issues
• Assist with bunkering and fuel-transfer operations
• Maintain appropriate engineering records, logs and documentation
• Ensure work is completed in accordance with the vessel's Safety Management System (SMS)
• Promote safe working practices throughout the Engineering Department
• Participate in emergency preparedness, drills and assigned emergency duties
• Support environmental compliance and pollution-prevention procedures
• Assume the responsibilities of the Chief Engineer when required and appropriately authorized

Required Qualifications / Documents

• Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical
• Valid Transport Canada Second Engineer Certificate of Competency
• STCW Basic Safety Training
• Advanced Fire Fighting
• Survival Craft and Rescue Boat certification
• Applicable first aid / medical certification
• Advanced Oil Tanker Training
• Advanced Chemical Tanker Training
• Marine Security Training / Security certification
• Seafarer's Identity Document (SID)
• Valid passport and other required travel documentation
• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada

Previous tanker experience is strongly preferred.

Experience operating in northern, Arctic or ice-covered waters and applicable Polar Waters training/certification are considered valuable assets.
