Crewing Company: Ocean Services Ltd.

We are currently recruiting a Temporary/Relief Master at Ocean Services Ltd. for one of our Canadian Flagged Vessels.  At Ocean Services Ltd, we are committed to the Health and Safety of our seafarers and the protection of the environment. Our ships service the Atlantic Provinces, Nfld. & the Eastern Seaboard.

Responsibilities:

The Master is the direct representative of the Management Office/Owner and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the vessel. The Master is ultimately responsible for the overall command of the vessel. The Master is therefore entrusted with the responsibility of making and enacting on-site decisions in the event of judgements having to be made without prior consultation or discussion with the Management Office.

In addition to his line management responsibilities as Master he has certain legal duties which include, but not limited to, the following:

 Maintain the vessel in a safe and seaworthy condition.

 Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of all personnel on board the vessel and for the protection of the environment.

 Ensure the compliance of the vessel with all local, national and international legislation, and any additional requirements of the vessel’s flag administration.

 Ensure strict implementation of the Ship Security Plan.

 Responsible for safe navigation, correct berthing and mooring of the ship and providing safe access to the ship for authorised personnel by gangway or accommodation ladder.

 Ensure that effective communication between all Bridge Team Members is always maintained and all Bridge Team Members are well aware regarding the importance of keeping communication to the appropriate standard;

 Ensure that all Bridge Team Members, in particular the Officers, understand their roles and responsibilities, both during routine duties and in the event of an incident/emergency. If necessary, appropriate training should be performed;

 Ensure cargo operations are carried out in a safe and seaman like manner, paying due regard to any limitations.

 Responsible for the Official Log Books, emergency procedures, written instructions to watchkeeping officers in charge of navigation, cargo watches and the Permit to Work system.

 Ensure GMDSS equipment is operating and tested regularly and that all watchkeeping officers are familiar with the operation of the equipment.

 Ensure the Safety Management System is maintained up-to-date with the latest document revisions.

 Undertake daily onboard Management Meetings, where practicable, attended by senior officers (deck and engineering) to incorporate a daily action plan to assess and risk manage resources and workload.

 

 It is the Master’s responsibility following liaisons with the Chief Engineer to ensure that adequate Bunkers are available for the forthcoming voyage.

 

 

First Class COC, Advanced Oil Tanker, Marine Advanced First Aid, MEDs, Marine Medical, Passport, Ship Security Officer and/or Securities Duties & Ability to work in the US and COVID-19 double vaccination is a requirment.
