Job description

Reporting to the Director, Production Engineering, the STEEL AND OUTFITTING ENGINEERING SPECIALIST is responsible for developing, maintaining, and delivering required Engineering Information deliverables (i.e., technical work instructions, bills of materials, drawings/sketches etc.) to support all Steel and Steel outfit Repair/Installation activities for ship repair and new construction contracts.

RESPONSABILITIES:

Technical

  • Develop required information deliverables relating to shipyard Steel and Steel outfit activities in Ship Repair or new Construction Projects.
  • Extract detail from customer agreed specifications and work scopes to support creation of effective high-quality job cards (work packages) to support detailed planning phase.
  • Participate in advanced (assembly) planning process ensuring assemblies are production friendly and all data and drawing details are correct.
  • Create Engineering Bills of Material to effectively ensure that Planning has clear visibility of required materials.
  • Ensure delivery of all required drawings, sketches and other as required information in an accurate and timely fashion, while adhering to Davie’s internal configuration and change management processes.
  • Provide support to any Project Controls activities as requested.
  • Provide information and input into the estimate/bid development as required.
  • Provide any data or coding requirements to support the creation of shipboard tags for steel removals.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of Production Sketches and nesting packages to support Detail Planning.
  • Participate in supporting the creation of Engineering information in support of Steel and Steel outfit activities relating to subcontractors.
  • Understand the production facilities and resources capacities such as: space constrains, equipment, qualified operators, and verify their availability to satisfy the Project requirements.
  • Understand all activities onboard a ship/vessel and their sequential relationships.
  • Provide onboard ship/vessel technical field support as required.
  • Undertaking onboard surveys to support Steel removals and fabrication and re-installation.
  • Ensure all welding procedures are clearly identified as required by Production/Quality Control
  • Support any customer or classification technical requirements regarding lifting or structural changes
  • Interpret ship specifications and client work scopes and requirements and relate to onboard activities.
  • Be responsible for progress reporting, schedule updates and communication of any issue relating to the timely creation of deliverables during the planning phase of the project.
  • Participation in any Process Improvement Initiatives as required.
  • Provide reports and spreadsheets as required on work status.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Project Management

  • Ensure compliance with the agreed upon procedures for Production Engineering operations within Davie.
  • Ensure the updating of progress of deliverables to Planning
  • Develop and cultivate good communication/collaboration with Procurement, Quality Control, Safety, Project Controls and Production Departments.
  • Ensure a smooth flow of operations from Engineering to Planning
  • Adheres to any Document Control requirements by utilizing Davie’s data repository (M-Files)

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years in shipbuilding/ship repair or a combination (obligatory).
  • Naval Architect Degree, or a combination of Post secondary Diploma in a Steel discipline coupled with extensive experience.
  • Good knowledge of the Manufacturing Processes of shipbuilding.
  • Strong competence in Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Ability to work in confident, self-direct manner while prioritizing a large volume of work.
  • Fully bilingual French and English.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to effectively interface with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Successfully complete the investigation and security clearance process required by the Federal Government Contract Security Program.
  • Experience working with ERM would be considered an asset.
