Job Description

Coastal Shipping Limited is seeking qualified and safety-focused Motormen / Engine Room Ratings (ERR) to join our Canadian tanker fleet.

This is a seasonal full-time opportunity working on a 38 days on / 38 days off rotation. Depending on the vessel schedule and time of season, operations may include service in Canada’s Arctic, coastal waters and the Great Lakes.

The Motorman / ERR is an important member of the vessel’s engineering department, supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation and maintenance of engine-room machinery and equipment.

We are looking for dependable marine professionals with a strong mechanical aptitude, commitment to safety and ability to work effectively as part of an engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Engineering Officers with the operation and maintenance of engine-room machinery and equipment
  • Perform routine engine-room inspections and rounds
  • Monitor machinery and report abnormalities to the Engineer on watch
  • Assist with preventative and corrective maintenance
  • Perform cleaning, lubrication and general engine-room maintenance
  • Assist with pumps, valves, piping and other machinery as directed
  • Maintain engine-room spaces, tools and equipment in a safe and orderly condition
  • Participate in bunkering and other engineering operations as assigned
  • Participate in vessel safety drills and emergency duties
  • Follow the vessel's Safety Management System (SMS), environmental procedures and company policies
  • Support safe and efficient tanker operations
  • Perform other engine department duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer or Engineering Officers

Required Qualifications / Documents

Applicants should provide copies of their applicable marine certificates and documentation with their application, including:

  • Resume
  • Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical
  • Engine Room Rating (ERR) / appropriate Transport Canada certification
  • STCW Basic Safety Training (BST)
  • Applicable Survival Craft / Rescue Boat certification
  • Tanker Oil and Chemical certification
  • Marine Security Training / Security certification
  • Seafarer's Identity Document (SID)
  • Valid marine credentials appropriate to the position
  • Proof of eligibility to work in Canada

Previous tanker and engine-room experience is considered an asset.

Experience working in northern, Arctic or ice-covered waters is also highly valued.
