HCM – Head Cargo Maintenance

 

We have upcoming openings for Head Cargo Maintenance personnel on board our new ship, being delivered in 2023. This dry cargo, self-unloading vessel will operate on the Great Lakes; carry aggregates and other related dry cargo materials. We are looking for eager and self-starting individuals.

Key responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the vessels Chief Engineer, oversees the day-to-day maintenance of the ship’s cargo handling equipment.
    • Inspect, maintain all conveying equipment, belts, rollers, tensioners, motors and related framework supporting the conveying and elevation systems within the vessel.
    • Understands hazards and safe operations of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems
  • Working closely with the Chief Mate and other OOW’s to ensure cargo is discharged in proper sequence.
  • Manages any assigned cargo maintenance assistants ensuring duties are competently and efficiently completed
  • Provides the Chief Engineer with daily reporting on equipment status, parts requirements, and plans for upcoming general maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Two or more years self-unloader experience in tunnel / cargo maintenance operations considered a must.
  • Competent use of hot work equipment required.
  • Strong understanding of how conveyor systems work and how to interpret early signs of trouble through inspections of belts, rollers and related tensioning and power equipment.
  • Strong safety mindset, knowledgeable in electrical hazards, lockout/tagout procedure and the hazards of rotating equipment.
  • Leadership skills to work independently or manage a small team considered a strong asset.
  • Some computer skills for tracking planned maintenance considered a strong asset.
  • Marine Emergency Duties (MED’s) STCW Basic Safety and Survival Craft Certifications required
  • Shall hold one of a Bridge Watch Rating Certificate of Competency or Engine Room Rating issued by Transport Canada
  • Transport Canada Marine Medical
  • Effective communication and proven teamwork skills
