A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF WHAT TO EXPECT
Under the supervision of the Mechanical Superintendent and the Captain while in operations, the position holder is primarily responsible for the machinery operation of the tugboat including start up and shut down procedures of main engine(s) and auxiliary generators. This position also requires the individual to work independently in assessing any mechanical breakdowns (machinery, pumps, hydraulics, electrical) from tear down, procurement of parts and rebuild to final installation.
RESPONSIBILITIES YOU WILL BE ENTRUSTED WITH
- Maintain the main engine and auxiliary equipment
- Operate electrical, mechanical and hydraulic control systems as well as replenishment-at-sea equipment
- Operate and maintain refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning equipment
- Monitor the tasks of the preventive maintenance system
- Ensure the implementation of the safety management system in his department
- Monitor the functioning parameters of the main engine (pressure, temperature, levels) and report any irregularity
- Other related tasks as requested by his supervisor
PROFILE SOUGHT
- Fourth Class Marine Engineer Canadian Certification (Motor)
- A minimum experience of one year at sea as an engineer
- M.E.D. certificates
- Valid seafarer’s medical
- Restricted radio certificate, an asset
- Good knowledge of diesel mechanics
- Good knowledge of hydraulic systems
- Analytical skills for problem solving and troubleshooting
- Comfortable working on computer in a Microsoft Office environment
- Self-directed and demonstrating positive leadership
- Responsible, autonomous, team worker and punctual
- Be able to work on a rotating schedule 24/7
- On occasion, away on vessel for up to 24hr awaiting orders in other ports than Hamilton
- Responsible, autonomous, motivated by team work and punctual
