Lower Lakes Towing operates a fleet of six self-unloading bulk carriers and two conventional bulk carriers in Canada. Combined with our U.S. sister companies, we have a combined fleet of 24 bulk cargo vessels operating on the Great Lakes. These vessels transport a diverse array of dry bulk commodities including limestone, coal, iron ore, salt, grain and other commodities for more than 50 long-standing customers in the construction, electric utility, integrated steel and food industries.

We have immediate openings for the position of Watchkeeping Mate aboard our Canadian flagged self-unloading and flat-back bulk carriers.
Responsibilities
- Promote an attitude of safety and uphold company policies
- Carry out cargo orders of the First Mate for the loading, stowage, care and discharge of all cargo.
- Supervise deck crew within the boundaries of the written orders provided by the First Mate
- Responsible for the safety of the vessel while on watch as the Master's Representative
- Provide safety orientation and full tour of the vessel to new crew members
- Maintain all nautical publications and electronic and paper charts
- Responsible for the duties of 3rd Mate
- Assigned as the Health and Safety Representative on-board
- Assist the Master with administrative duties
- Follow regulations and ensure compliance
Qualifications
- Watchkeeping Mate Ticket required
- MED's and Valid Marine Medical required
- Experience on Self-Unloading or Bulk Carriers an asset
- Permanent Residence Status or Canadian Citizenship required
